Greetings From the President 2011-12

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the Greenbriar West Elementary PTA website. Please take your time reviewing the site so that you can learn more about our committees, activities, and goals for supporting our students, teachers, and the community.

As a parent, becoming a member of the PTA will not only establish you within a network of information, but also give you a voice in making decisions for your child, for our school, and its numerous activities. The PTA provides many avenues for your child to excel. Special activities include Odyssey of the Mind, Chess Club, FLEX (Foreign Language Experience), Arts in the Schools, Veterans Day, International Night, Book Fairs, Read Across America, Spelling Bee, and the Reflections program which offers a student the opportunity to compete in the arts (visual, writing and music composition) on a national level. As a volunteer you will assist us in creating a close community of families making Greenbriar West Elementary a wonderful place to learn. You will meet parents and form friendships that will last a life time.

Within the classrooms, the PTA has supported purchases such as computers, Smartboards, books, and gym equipment. In addition to providing lunches for students who have forgotten lunch or lunch money, the PTA also supports wonderful cultural arts assemblies, bus transportation so that your child can participate in field trips throughout the year, and avenues for competition within the many academic programs that we offer. We also support a carnival, family fun nights, grounds beautification, and many more enjoyable activities that bring the community together.

We have approximately nearly 950 students in Greenbriar West Elementary. Our membership goal is one membership for each child. Membership for 2 adults is only $15 and for one parent it is $10.00! You could even ask your child’s grandparents to become members!

As stated last year, we are hoping to communicate via email and our web page. Not only will this help decrease volunteer hours, save paper, and lower our costs, but it will also keep Greenbriar West Elementary on the leading edge of technology and communication.

Lastly, we cannot do this without your help. We invite you to volunteer when able and make it a special memory for both you and your child. I see many smiling faces when children see their parent attend Greenbriar functions.

Make your child and his or her education a priority. Begin by supporting Greenbriar West Elementary PTA!

Thank you!

Sandy Jones
President
