From the PTA President

The second quarter is over and the school year is half-way done. PTA volunteers have done such a wonderful job enriching the lives of our students and helping our school. If you have been waiting to get involved perhaps now is the time. We are always looking for volunteers in so many areas, so make sure you are on our email list to hear about volunteer opportunities. Also, talk to your child's teacher, or a PTA Board member. It is never to too late to get involved!

This month the 6^th graders are kicking off the fundraising efforts for the Graduation Celebration with the annual Bingo Night on Friday, February 10. This is always a fun event enjoyed by everyone. Please refer to the Bingo Night article for more information and contacts.

This month GBW will hold its school level Scripps Spelling Bee. This year participants met in small groups with coaches to prepare them for the Bee. For the first time, Kindergarten through 2^nd graders will have their own Spelling Bee as well. It's always a challenge to get volunteers to help with this event since the Judges and Pronouncers can't have children in the Bee, so please consider helping with this event if you have a few hours of time to donate. A big thanks to the 3^rd and 4^th grade families who contributed to the 2^nd Quarter Staff Luncheon. It was a Super Bowl theme, and was organized by Alicia Silva. The staff was very appreciative for all the wonderful food.

The next big PTA event is the Spring Carnival. Please mark your calendars for March 17. We will need many volunteers to help make this event successful. Next to our Fall Fundraiser, this is the 2^nd largest fundraiser for the PTA. We need help running Games, Food Concessions, Silent Auction and more. There will be many emails coming out regarding Carnival, so please consider helping out with this fun event!

Our next PTA meeting is Tuesday, February 14 from 9:30-10:30 am in the GBW PTA room. We will be discussing fundraising for the 2012-13 school year, as well as name a nominating committee for the two open PTA Board positions for the next term. As always, we enjoy being able to keep you informed with up-to-date information via email. Please visit the www.gbwpta.org website to update your personal information. This is the best way to keep informed about what is going on at Greenbriar West!
