Counselors’ Corner: November 2011

Guidance Lessons
November’s lesson is “Ready to Learn:  Be Responsible and Resourceful”.  Students will discuss ways they can be in charge of their own routines, and look for ways to solve their own problems.  Please ask your child how they want to become more responsible.  They might want to set a small goal and work toward it.  You can help them “tweak” their strategies as they go!

Small Group Counseling
The counselors will hold small counseling groups offered to students who may benefit from peer support as they develop skills and attitudes that will help them with personal, academic, or social/emotional success.  Parent Participation forms will be sent home for your consideration prior to the start of group meetings.

SCA
Our SCA is off to a great start!  3rd – 6th Grade classrooms elected representatives and 5th & 6th Graders were assigned to Committees: Community Service, Ambassadors, Spirit, and Fundraising.

SCA Holiday Food Drive
Our Holiday Food Drive will be Monday, Nov.14 - Friday, December 16.  Students are encouraged to bring in 2 or more items to donate to families in Fairfax County, and to learn about the causes and solutions to hunger in our own community.  Responsibility to the community is vital to FCPS!

Holiday Assistance
Support is available for families experiencing financial hardships this December holiday season.  If you qualify for such services and wish to apply, please contact the school.
