Art News

Congratulations go to Emma Harris, a 3rd grader in Mrs. Montague’s class, for her winning design in the GBW’s 40th Anniversary Celebration T-shirt contest. It was so cool seeing the whole school wearing the shirts for Spirit Day and at the celebration on Saturday, October the 29.

During the month of October, your children used the new techniques learned in September to create the following:

  • Kindergarteners used basic shapes to draw faces and figures.
  • 1st graders refined drawing skills learned in kindergarten to create works of art about their family.  We hope you got the chance to see the Self Portraits murals hanging in the gym and main hallways.
  • 2nd graders used size differences and overlapping to show perspective on drawings that told visual stories, providing clues about their communities.
  • 3rd graders completed their unit on drawing faces by incorporating one of their emotions drawing into a relief print.
  • 4th graders completed the unit on learning how to draw figures in action and proportion by making a sculpture out of wire or painting.
  • 5th graders applied what they learned about contour line drawings when drawing a still life of fruits and vegetables.
  • 6th graders completed their conté crayon Self Portraits, created abstract sculptures from tag board and started reviewing perspective techniques used when drawing landscapes.

When at school, take a few minutes to walk down the hallway galleries to view our fantastic student art.
