Message from the PTA President

December 2011

Once again GBW volunteers have been doing some wonderful things having an impact on students and families! November was a busy month of activities. GBW had the chance to honor Veterans at our annual Veteran's Day Meet and Greet. Thanks to Michael Tress for organizing a wonderful event.

And naturally, our Thanksgiving Lunch is a major event each year with students and families alike.Our cafeteria Chairperson, Catherine Metzinger and all the volunteers helped get everybody fed and moving through the cafeteria.

The PTA is still in need of volunteers for the Silent Auction that occurs during the Carnival in March.Perhaps several parents can work together to chair this fun event!This job entails soliciting the GBW community for items and services for auction.Please consider volunteering for this committee.

We'd like to remind parents about the Teacher Wish Lists that the PTA had the teachers fill out back in August.They filled out a form that listed their hobbies, favorite stores and class room items that they could use, among other things.Their completed forms are being kept in a green binder in the PTA office labeled “Teacher Wish Lists”. Please feel free to use this information throughout the year when you'd like to do something special for your teachers!

The PTA has received many wonderful “thank you's” from teachers and staff for the 1^st Quarter luncheon.Thanks to the 5^th and 6^th grade families who sent in food and thanks to Alicia Silva for organizing the tasty event.

As we enter a season of holidays and time off, the PTA would like to thank all the parents who have helped this year in all the different ways that you do. We are truly a wonderful community, and are thankful for our entire GBW family! We will not be holding a PTA meeting in December but look forward to seeing you at our January 10 meeting. The special speaker at January's meeting will be Kate DeSantis, GBW reading specialist, who will be discussing language arts and the school's intervention programs. The meeting will take place at 7:00 pm in the school's library.
