Counselors’ Corner

The theme for December Guidance Lessons is, “Be Kind – Reach Out and Give to theCommunity”. In that spirit, our lessons will focus on showing responsibility to the community by participating in service learning projects. Students will also learn about ways to show kindness and compassion to others who need help.

We would like to thank the Peer Mediators who helped deliver the message, “Be a Hero” to the students on WGBW last month. The mediators used posters to share tips about the important role of the “bystander” in a bullying situation. Anyone can be a hero, as long as they speak up and take a stand against bullying and teasing. Doing nothing makes bullying worse.
The counselors are about to begin working with small counseling groups. These groups are offered to students who want to strengthen particular life skills, such as managing emotions, getting along with others, and implementing organization strategies. Students are also given the opportunity to attend “Lunch Bunches” with the counselors. These groups are social in nature, meet once, and are held during the students’ regular lunch time.
