Physical Education - News That’s Fit to Print!

The second quarter in PE finds the students well into physical fitness! 4th-6th grade students have been participating in the Virginia Wellness-Related Fitness tests which focus on the four components of fitness: Cardiorespiratory Endurance, Muscle Strength and Endurance, Flexibility and Body Composition. Students will bring home test results and will work on setting goals for improvement. Body Composition is not tested in school; it will be a homework assignment that will need your assistance! This quarter we will continue fitness activities, participate in Stack Up 2011, the Guinness World Record Sport Stacking event and on throwing and catching.

2nd and 3rd graders have been busy with dribbling with the feet skills through soccer activities and cardiorespiratory endurance through warm-up jogs. Each class every student starts with a 5 minute warm-up jog designed to enhance their endurance. Yes, they can!

Kindergarteners and 1st graders are learning gym protocols, warm-up jogs, exercises, locomotor skills, and participating in fine and gross motor screenings. This quarter they’ll participate in Cupstacking, more fitness activities, and throwing and catching activities!

In fitness and health,
Ms. Lynk and Mr. MacMillin
